The British asylum agreement means that some asylum seekers are sent to Rwanda immediately.

The asylum process will take place there and the UK will bear the cost.

For Rwanda, the agreement can be a way to lift a different image of the country, according to SVT's correspondent Johan Ripås.

- The government here in Rwanda, which has received a lot of criticism for violations of human rights, has an opportunity here to obtain diplomatic capital.

You cooperate with Europe, you are a partner who becomes dependent on each other and thus you open up for a better relationship where criticism may become more difficult to present.

Asylum seeker's situation in the country

But the agreement, which has been appealed, has met with strong criticism from, among others, human rights organizations.

It is about, for example, that people who in many cases risked their lives to go to Europe to seek asylum, are sent to another country that does not have the same freedom of expression and rights that they felt needed, Ripås says.

- Since then, many have found it very difficult to know exactly what the situation of asylum seekers will look like in Rwanda in the long run.
