Head of the Department of Cardiology at Medipol Mega University Hospital in Turkey, Professor Bilal Boztosun, said that pale nails could be an indication of high cholesterol.

He added in a statement published by the university and reported by Anadolu Agency that dark lines appear under the nails when high cholesterol in the blood, as cholesterol causes the veins to narrow or block, and then restrict blood flow to different areas of the body, including the nails.

Thin people are also at risk of developing high cholesterol

Boztosun pointed to the causes and symptoms of high cholesterol, explaining that obesity is among the factors that lead to high cholesterol, but this does not necessarily mean that thin people do not have this disease.

And he added, "A thin person can also be infected. One of the most important factors leading to high cholesterol is lack of movement and eating fast and ready foods that contain saturated and trans fats."

In addition, a person can develop high cholesterol if a family member has this disease, diabetes, kidney disease, or glandular dysfunction.

One of the symptoms of high cholesterol is numbness and cramping of the feet

Bostosun explained that the feeling of numbness in the feet and thighs may be linked to high cholesterol. When the thigh veins are blocked, not enough blood and oxygen reach the lower part of the body, so many cholesterol patients feel pain and tiredness in the feet.

"Poor blood flow to the feet and hands can cause pain, fatigue and numbness. Other symptoms of the disease include cramping and coldness in the lower body and slow healing of wounds," he added.
