Ukraine described a Russian military offensive of "maximum intensity" and an extremely difficult situation in Donbass, in the east of its territory.
"The current offensive of the occupiers in the Donbass could make the region uninhabited", affirmed Volodymyr Zelensky in his televised address on Thursday night to Friday, accusing the Russian forces of seeking to "reduce to ashes" several towns in the region .
Supported by a deluge of bombs, the Russian army threatens Severodonetsk, a city of 100,000 inhabitants before the war, which could suffer the same fate as Mariupol, the southeastern port largely destroyed after weeks of siege.
12:15 a.m .: Zelensky accuses Russia of “genocide” in the Donbass
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday accused Russia of carrying out "genocide" in Donbass, in the east of the country.
Russia is practicing "deportation" and "mass killing of civilians" in the Donbass, Zelensky claimed in his daily TV address.
"All this (...) is an obvious policy of genocide carried out by Russia," he accused.
