It is tense and troubled in northeastern Syria.

Not as many people as usual are out.

Fearing a possible Turkish invasion, many stay at home, getting ready to escape quickly.

Threat of new invasion

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently threatened to launch a new invasion of northern Syria to strengthen Turkey's southern border.

Turkey has already carried out several invasions of northern Syria and is occupying parts of the area along the border.

The goal of a possible new military operation is to take control of the remaining territory that the Kurdish militia YPG now controls.

According to Turkey, the YPG is an extension of the terrorist Kurdish guerrilla PKK.

If Erdogan's threat becomes a reality, Turkey would control a 30-kilometer-deep security zone along the entire border with Syria.

"We will soon take new steps regarding the incomplete parts of the project we started on the 30-kilometer-deep safe zone that we have established along our southern border," Erdogan said after a government meeting on Monday.

Many are terrified

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the military operation will begin when Turkey's military intelligence and security forces have completed their preparations.

Many Kurds in Syria, who live near the border with Turkey, are terrified of a new impending invasion.

Rashid Bousan in the city of Zirgan is scared.

The Turkish border is in the north, and in the west are areas that were invaded by Turkey almost three years ago.

In the event of a new military operation, his hometown may become the first to be occupied by Turkey.

But Rashid Bousan still intends to stay.

- I'm coming from here.

Here is my home and my country.

I'm not leaving until I die.
