Occupied Jerusalem

- The celebrations of what is known as the "Unification of Jerusalem" day, and in particular the most prominent celebration represented by the march of Israeli flags, continue to occupy a private Palestinian, Israeli and even international space, with continued warnings that the passage of the march from Bab al-Amud and the Islamic neighborhood towards the Al-Buraq Wall will lead to an explosion of the situation.

Despite the warning of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to the leaders of the occupation “against any miscalculation in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa,” and its affirmation to proceed with full force in defending Jerusalem, the mosque, and national rights;

The other side is also proceeding to put the final touches on the preparations, including raising the readiness of the Israeli police by unloading 3,000 personnel to provide protection for the celebrants in Jerusalem.

These preparations were met with an urgent meeting of the Palestinian factions and the joint room in Gaza, which resulted in the threat that "the resistance will not retreat from what the battle of the sword of Jerusalem had achieved", and the announcement of the readiness and interdependence of all the squares to respond to the aggression.

Existential Enhancement

In Jerusalem, the national and Islamic forces called - through a statement they issued - for the need to intensify the presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque next Sunday morning, and at Bab Al-Amoud and its surroundings in the afternoon to prevent the participants in the Israeli flags march from reaching the place.

The forces urged merchants in and outside the Old City to keep the doors of their shops open, and called on Jerusalemites to raise the Palestinian flag throughout the city.

On the ground, the occupation forces launched a campaign of precautionary arrests and deportations in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem, and the head of the Committee for the Families of Jerusalemite Prisoners, Amjad Abu Asab, told Al Jazeera Net that a number of detainees have been extended their detention to be released next Sunday evening with the end of the celebrations.

He added that the goal is clear by deliberately neutralizing the social influencers who had a role in confronting the settlers' attacks in Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem previously.

Writer and researcher in Jerusalem affairs, Mazen Al-Jabari, spoke about possible escalation scenarios if the Israeli security and political levels insisted on not changing the path of the flags march, saying that there is a determination not to succumb to Palestinian threats and the passage of extremists through Bab al-Amud and the Islamic neighborhood of the Old City.

Jabari attributed this to several reasons;

Including the general Israeli feeling of disappointment during the last period in Jerusalem, especially during the month of Ramadan, and at the funerals of Shirin Abu Aqleh and the young Walid al-Sharif, which caused confusion over the issue of sovereignty over Jerusalem.

The second reason that pushes the Israeli government to keep the traditional path of the march is its feeling that it is fragile in the face of accusations by the opposition and settlers after a series of operations that caused deaths inside the Palestinian territories, and therefore it wants to suppress the voices calling for its downfall.

Escalation option is available

This intransigence makes the scenario of going towards a new confrontation with Gaza soon, especially in light of the continuing threats from the resistance factions there, although the political echelon of Hamas has no desire to go to a confrontation with Israel.

Al-Jabari told Al-Jazeera Net, "The Palestinian resistance does not want to end the deterrence equation that it achieved in the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem, and it also does not want to shake its image in front of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem if it ignores the response to the march of the flags."

According to Al-Jabari, the occupation may resort to another scenario to absorb the anger of the Palestinians by allowing a limited number of settlers participating in the flags march to reach Bab al-Amud, so that their number does not exceed 500 participants, accompanied by a large armed force that is keen to pass them without friction with the Palestinians in the place, and secure their access to the wall Sparkle easily.

According to the announced preparations, the settlers will be divided into about 8,000 who will enter the Old City from Bab al-Amud, and a similar number from Bab al-Khalil to the Western Wall.

In a third scenario, he did not rule out that the response of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza would be limited by firing a few missiles towards empty lands in the Gaza envelope, and Israel would respond with a limited response, stressing that the course of events from next Sunday morning until its time will determine the nature of the reaction from the Palestinian side.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli "Flags Dance" march is organized in what is known as the "Unification of Jerusalem" day, in which Israel commemorates the anniversary of its occupation of the eastern part of Jerusalem in 1967, as a continuation of its occupation of the city and its control over its holy places.
