The police have had more staff in the passport department and also started with two different shifts, which means that they can be open 07-21 on weekdays.

During some weekends, it has also been possible to book an appointment for the passport application.

- This has shortened our times to get a pass time.

We are trying to keep up with this now so that it will be easier for our citizens to get a passport time, says Ann-Christin Rehnström, head of the local police area Linköping.

According to the police, it now takes an average of about 20.3 weeks to get a time for the application.

Last week, that figure was 21.7 weeks.

Broken machine makes up for it

Even if the actual times for applying start to look better, it is the opposite when it comes to being able to pick up your passport.

Last week, a machine broke down at the Finnish company that manufactures passports for several countries in Europe.

It now takes several weeks before people can pick up their new passport.

- It can take quite a long time before you get the passport delivered.

So we are trying to work extra with that now, says Ann-Christin Rehnström.

Instead, the police urge you to use the option of a national ID card where the waiting time is somewhat shorter.
