In his address, Yurzica asked why the European Council decided to abandon the application of duties in the field of energy imports.

Referring to the analysis of the Bruegel research center, the deputy noted that for Europe, the most effective option for sanctions against Russian energy resources would not be an embargo, but the introduction of duties on imports.

“Trade bans lead to a reduction in the supply of goods and an increase in prices, while the profit from price increases remains in the exporting country.

With the introduction of duties, the cost of goods still grows, but the money received from this growth remains in the importing country, ”added the parliamentarian.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said it was counterproductive to discuss an oil embargo against Russia in the EU without agreeing on alternatives, the Financial Times reported.

Last week, European Commission Deputy Head Frans Timmermans expressed hope that an agreement on an embargo on Russian oil would be reached in the coming days.

Meanwhile, experts have repeatedly expressed the opinion that the European Union will not be able to find a replacement for Russian supplies, even in the medium term.
