The star CAC 40 index rose by 111.94 points to 6,410.58 points.

The day before, he had already taken 0.73%.

After a neutral opening, the Parisian price went up, accelerating at the start of the day and then after the opening of the American markets, supported in particular by good results from retailers.

However, this movement took place in reduced volumes, at 2.85 billion euros, a sign that the trend remains fragile in the absence of many operators in the trading rooms.

Investors have digested the minutes of the debates of the last Fed monetary policy meeting, where none of the speakers pleaded for an increase in key rates of 75 basis points, against 25 usually and 50 envisaged by economists for its next meeting in June.

“The current outlook for rate hikes seems suited to the trajectory of inflation, especially since, in the United States, the PCE +core + inflation index”, i.e. excluding energy prices and food, “came out a little below expectations” on Thursday, notes Christopher Lhuillier, head of financial investment experts at Milleis Banque.

If the peak of inflation has passed, "there will not be the need to make increases of 75 basis points", continues Mr. Lhuillier.

This would be welcome as the US economy is showing signs of weakness, with a stronger than expected contraction initially for US gross domestic product (GDP).

Luxury makes Paris shine

Luxury stocks, heavyweights of the rating, continued the rebound started in the middle of the session on Wednesday after falling after doubts linked to the Chinese economy.

LVMH took 3.67% to 571.20 euros, Kering 3.45% to 467.70 euros and Hermès 2.45% to 1,045.50 euros.

Vivendi majority stake in Lagardère

The French media giant Vivendi, parent company of Canal+, Havas and Editis, holds the majority stake (55.4%) in Lagardère following the first phase of its takeover bid on the group that owns the publisher Hachette and influential media.

Vivendi shares fell 0.32% to 11 euros.

It was one of the few stocks in the red in the CAC 40 on Thursday.
