- It is of course terrible that we see such an increase, says Sara Tingvall Brandt who works with internet-related sexual abuse of children at the police in Jönköping.
In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in the number of sexual assaults on children online that the Police Region East is investigating.
In 2018, 94 cases were received by the police.
During the first four months of this year, 140 have been received.
- There are several reasons for that.
One of them is that there are more young children online today who have several different platforms on social media.
But then it is also the case that we have become better at finding and investigating cases, she says.
Doubles the workforce
In the clip, Sara Tingvall Brandt tells what parents can do to help their children.
The police in Jönköping County will now increase the number of people who investigate sexual-related crimes against children online.
Last year they were four and in September they will be eight people.
- Our hope is that we will be able to prosecute more people now that we are doubling the workforce, she says.
