China News Agency, Washington, May 26. Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang published a signed article in the South China Morning Post on the 26th, saying that in the past few decades, the one-China principle has been the cornerstone of Sino-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. are facing unprecedented threats.

The article pointed out that the Chinese government actively and sincerely promotes the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and is willing to do its utmost to achieve peaceful reunification, which is in the best interest of the Chinese nation, including Taiwan compatriots.

At the same time, we do not promise to renounce the use of force, which is definitely not aimed at Taiwan compatriots, but to deter "Taiwan independence" elements and external forces from interfering.

Promoting peaceful reunification and not giving up the use of force are like two sides of the same coin. The fundamental purpose is to strive for favorable conditions for peaceful reunification.

The article stated that in order to achieve peaceful reunification, we must firmly uphold the one-China principle, that is: there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is not a sovereign state, but a part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China.

For a long time, this has been the general consensus of the international community and has an unshakable foundation of international law.

The article pointed out that the United States has a solemn commitment to the one-China principle.

In the three Sino-US joint communiqués, the United States recognized that there is only one China in the world, that Taiwan is a part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government of China.

The United States maintains only other unofficial relations with Taiwan, such as cultural and commercial.

The US promised not to pursue a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and would gradually reduce arms sales to Taiwan, and resolve the issue after a period of time.

However, the one-China principle is being seriously undermined.

The Tsai Ing-wen authorities refused to accept the "1992 Consensus" that embodied the one-China principle, and changed their tactics to pursue "gradual Taiwan independence."

On the one hand, the U.S. government claims that the one-China policy has not changed, that it does not support "Taiwan independence", and that it does not want conflict with China. policy.

The United States has placed the so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" and "Six Assurances to Taiwan" unilaterally concocted above the three joint communiqués that are the bilateral consensus between China and the United States, which seriously violates the basic norms of international relations.

The U.S. aggressively elevates its official relations and keeps sending senior officials to visit Taiwan, but it says it is to promote unofficial relations.

The U.S. side says it wants peace across the Taiwan Strait, but it sells a large number of advanced weapons to Taiwan, which is undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire.

The wrong approach of the US has seriously fueled the arrogance of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and is turning the Taiwan Strait into a dangerous powder keg.

The article emphasized that recently, some people have hyped the so-called "Ukraine today, Taiwan tomorrow".

The two problems are completely different in nature.

Ukraine is a sovereign state, and Taiwan has never been a sovereign state.

The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affairs, and no foreign interference is allowed.

The sovereignty and territorial integrity of any country, including Ukraine, should be respected, and China's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan issue must also be respected.

On this issue concerning China's core interests, we have no room for compromise.

Discussions on "strategic clarity" or "strategic ambiguity" on the US side are a waste of time.

No one should underestimate the Chinese people's strong determination, firm will and strong ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
