China News Service, Beijing, May 26 (Reporter Zhang Weiran and Huang Yuqin) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on the 26th.

A reporter asked: Recently, some European politicians and scholars said that the continuous eastward expansion of NATO under the leadership of the United States is one of the root causes of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but the cost of the conflict is mainly borne by Europe. America isn't exactly the same.

What is China's comment?

Wang Wenbin: Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, when Europe is bearing heavy political, economic and social costs, the United States is reaping dividends.

American arms dealers celebrated with champagne, the food and energy industries in the United States made a lot of money, and the U.S. government only accepted 12 Ukrainian refugees in a "show" throughout March.

Facts have proved that blindly imposing sanctions is not an effective way to resolve conflicts, and continuing to send arms will not achieve peace.

Protracted and complicated conflicts will have incalculable consequences.

The people of European countries will bear a higher price, and the world will have to face severe challenges such as the energy crisis and the food crisis. Only a few people, such as arms dealers and oil and gas dealers, will benefit.

China supports the continuation of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

We also call on the EU, NATO and Russia to conduct comprehensive dialogues, so that reason can overcome emotions, vision can overcome short-sightedness, common interests can overcome individual selfish interests, and we can promote the establishment of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework.
