CAIRO -

The head of the Egyptian "Al-Wasat" party, Abu Al-Ela Madi, revealed yesterday, Wednesday, that the governor of Menoufia and the former Minister of Local Development, Muhammad Ali Bishr (71 years), had a stroke inside his prison in the Tora prison complex, south of the capital Cairo.

In his Facebook post, Madi indicated to his knowledge that Bishr, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, had suffered a stroke in his prison, after which he was transferred to Qasr Al-Aini Hospital in Cairo, where he underwent brain surgery, and then returned to Istikbal Tora Prison Hospital to complete his treatment.

For its part, the family of Muhammad Ali Bishr, who has been denied visitation since 2018, said that they had failed to obtain any information about his health condition, after he had suffered a stroke, after which he was transferred to a hospital outside the prison for an operation.

Dr. Muhammad Bishr

I learned that my brother and friend Dr. Muhammad Ali Bishr, the former Secretary General of the Engineers Syndicate, had suffered a stroke in his prison, after which he was transferred to Al-Qasr Al-Ainy Hospital, where he underwent brain surgery and then returned to Al-Istikbal Prison Hospital to complete his treatment.

Denied visitation

For its part, the family of the former minister issued a statement confirming that it had received news from several sources that he had a stroke that necessitated his transfer to the hospital and an operation, noting that it had tried hard to obtain information about his health through legal and personal sources without result, due to Denial of visitation since 2018, and the absence of any communication between him and lawyers.

The family explained that it had submitted a request to the National Council for Human Rights in order to seek its legal rights through health release and also to include his name on the presidential pardon lists (which personalities close to the authority are currently talking about), in order to save his life.

The family indicated that the time has come for Dr. Bishr - with his trade union, political and charitable history, as well as the role he played for Egypt in different stages of its history - to receive a dignified humane treatment worthy of his history, status, age and health conditions, which is the security we wish for all.

The family concluded its statement by emphasizing its hope for a soon-to-be return to him and "to reunite a bereaved family, like many families, who have been covered with beautiful patience over the past seven years, in the hope that he will return home to complete his medical course and see his grandchildren, many of whom were born after his imprisonment, but he did not see them and did not see him."

Social media solidarity

A number of Egyptian activists and politicians expressed solidarity with the demands of Dr. Bishr's family to include him in the presidential pardon lists, and demanded his speedy release in consideration of his health conditions.

A number of them agreed that Bishr had always expressed the voice of reason within the Muslim Brotherhood, and refused to leave Egypt after the Rabaa massacre, which targeted supporters of the late President Mohamed Morsi after the military coup in 2013, and was a party to the negotiations between the Egyptian regime and the Muslim Brotherhood, and did not participate days or calls for any acts of violence.

The Muslim Brotherhood also demanded the speedy release of Bishr to complete his treatment, and held the ruling regime responsible for his health and the health of all detainees.

The regime knows more than any of us that Dr. Muhammad Ali Bishr is a patriotic, centrist man. It was not known about him that he called for violence and did not participate in violence or incitement. Therefore, the arrival of a man to a stroke in his prison is insulting to the Egyptian state. He is the voice of reason. Rather, the best person to participate in The administration of the #National_Dialogue.. I hope he is released and every prisoner of conscience pic.twitter.com/Dx76mNLfou

When we read that Dr. Muhammad Ali Bishr, the former Minister of Local Development, had a stroke in his prison cell, it is permissible to ask why Dr. Bishr is in prison?!

The most important question is whether the rules of pardon apply to him, or is he among those whose hands are stained with blood?!

Sincere invitations to the big brother, Dr. Muhammad Ali preached recovery and recovery in his religion and this world, this symbol that if he was in a country that knows the destiny of people, his place in the university would teach generations, but it is despotism that deprives the homeland of its most sincere children, but rather leaves them in prisons, eating disease in their bodies, God sufficed us And yes proxy.

He was previously arrested in 1999 in what was known at the time as the "Trade unionists' case", and he was referred to the military court along with 20 trade unionists accused in the same case, and the military court sentenced him to 3 years in prison on charges of belonging to the Brotherhood and preparing for the elections of professional unions.

In 2006, he was tried militarily among 40 of the group's leaders, and he was sentenced to 3 years in prison and released in 2010.
