The Moderates, Christian Democrats, Liberals and Sweden Democrats believe that reduced contributions are a necessity to get more people into the labor market.

- There should always be a difference between working and going on grants so that sufficient driving forces are created to take a job, says Maria Malmer Stenegaard, migration policy spokesperson for the Moderates.

The Sweden Democrats believe that new arrivals should not be able to receive full financial assistance from day one in Sweden.

- In general, we want you to have access to welfare as you yourself begin to contribute to it.

That you can qualify into certain systems, says Ludvig Aspling, migration policy spokesman for the Sweden Democrats.

Want to see other measures

The Social Democrats, the Green Party and the Left Party, on the other hand, believe that reduced contributions would only lead to people becoming poorer.

They want to see other measures.

- We must review how parental insurance and establishment allowance can be combined.

Today, many women who have children lose their opportunity for establishment and come further from the labor market, says Anders Ygeman (S), Minister of Integration and Migration.

- Regardless of whether you are an academic or illiterate, a two-year establishment program is offered with similar initiatives today.

We need to individualize the establishment program so that there are more tracks, says Leila Ali Elmi, migration policy spokesperson for the Green Party.

Denmark halved contributions

In 2002, a reform was introduced in Denmark that almost halved the subsidies for new arrivals.

In 2019, a study came out that shows that the reform contributed to more people coming to work.

But that it also had unwanted effects.

Among other things, crime increased among both adults and children.

Are you worried that reduced subsidies could have similar effects as in Denmark?

- What really worries me are children who get caught up in exclusion and who never see their parents go to work.

I think this creates a greater breeding ground for exclusion and crime, says Maria Malmer Stenegaard (M).
