The young man who had his hand torn off by a grenade during the Redon rave party in June will file a new complaint.
His first complaint had been dismissed in March by the Rennes prosecutor's office.
In an article published on Sunday, Mediapart again points to "the disproportionate use of force" by the gendarmes during the clashes and "the lack of coordination between the firefighters and the police".
It was nearly a year ago.
On the night of June 18 to 19, nearly 1,500 people gathered in a field near the Redon racecourse (Ille-et-Vilaine) for a free party organized in tribute to Steve Maia Caniço, who drowned in Nantes on June 21, 2019 after a police charge.
Hardly the sound posed, the party had quickly degenerated.
For several hours, violent clashes had pitted the teufeurs against the police who were trying to evacuate the premises.
During the intervention, a young man of 22 had his hand torn off by a grenade.
He had filed a complaint a month later for "aggravated voluntary violence resulting in permanent disability" and for "failure to assist a person in danger".
After nine months of investigations, the Rennes prosecutor's office closed the complaint without further action in March.
Prosecutor Philippe Astruc then explained that the grenade had arrived on the ground and that the victim had "voluntarily" seized it.
The use of weapons by the police was also “in compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory provisions”, he added.
New investigations demanded
After this classification without follow-up, the lawyer for the mutilated young man will file a new complaint in the coming days with a civil action.
"We are asking that an investigating magistrate be able to order new investigations," said Maître Stéphane Vallée, interviewed by
Ouest-France
.
In particular, he calls for the hearing of new witnesses and additional ballistic expertise.
In an article published on Sunday, the Mediapart site also denounces "the disproportionate use of force" by the gendarmes that night.
The investigation thus identified "58 LBD shots, 1602 uses of CM6 grenades, 139 of MP7 grenades, 239 of GM2L grenades and 24 of GENL grenades".
But according to the Rennes public prosecutor, the use of these weapons "was done in response and proved to be necessary and proportionate", evoking the "hostile and violent attitude of the teufeurs" who threw incendiary projectiles and various objects (stones, petanque balls, tree trunks) on the police, injuring some.
Firefighters prevented from intervening?
Mediapart also points to "the lack of coordination between the firefighters and the police" during the evening, once again accusing the prefecture of having prevented the firefighters from helping the injured.
The Rennes prosecutor had already responded to his accusations in March by indicating "that no directive tending to prevent rescue action had been given" and that "the time taken to take charge of the victim and the care provided to him were brought had in no way aggravated his medical situation or constituted a loss of opportunity".
