According to a report by Japan's Asahi TV station on May 24, local time, during the salvage and towage of the "KAZU" sightseeing boat that sank in the waters off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido, the sunken sightseeing boat fell 182 meters below the sea surface.

  Japanese media previously reported that the salvage of the sightseeing boat is expected to officially start on May 23.

  On April 23, a sightseeing boat carrying 26 people lost contact in the waters near the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido. It was later confirmed that the boat had sunk. 14 people have been confirmed dead, and the whereabouts of the other 12 people are still unknown.
