The former Prime Minister, guest of Europe Matin this Wednesday, returned to the pension reform.

While this was one of candidate Macron's flagship measures, it seems to have been set aside by the executive.

For Jean-Pierre Raffarin, the president "needs a majority" in the legislative elections before putting the file back on the table.

Will pension reform really happen?

For the moment, the president and the government indeed seem to prefer to focus on other subjects, in particular school, health, ecological transition and the fight against inflation.

For former Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, it is in the first part of his second five-year term that Emmanuel Macron must implement this reform, which is presented as one of the strong measures of the "candidate president" program. during his campaign.

“We must carry out the reform in the first part of the five-year term”

"I remain optimistic and I think that it will have to be done in the first part of the five-year term because, during the second part, it is the next elections which determine political life. It is in the next three years that it will must make this reform", underlined Jean-Pierre Raffarin at the microphone of Europe 1 this Wednesday.

For the former Prime Minister, the fact that Emmanuel Macron is waiting for the results of the legislative elections before putting this file back on the table is a good thing.

"It needs a majority. We should not add disorder to the crisis. On the contrary, today we need to be cold-blooded to prepare for the very important reforms that are coming. Our country needs reforms because if we continue the logics that have been in place since the year 2000, we have right-wing or left-wing extremism in power the next move."

Elisabeth Borne, "an asset" for the reform

According to him, the appointment of Elisabeth Borne as Prime Minister should also make it possible to negotiate on the file.

"A pension reform is being negotiated with the social partners and Elisabeth Borne has this social experience, this aptitude. This is one of the advantages of her appointment", underlined the former Prime Minister.
