Pakistani Prime Minister Says Karot Hydropower Station Will Promote Pakistan's Green Development

  Xinhua News Agency, Islamabad, May 25 (Reporter Jiang Chao) Pakistani Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif said on the 25th that the Karot Hydropower Station, the first hydropower investment project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, will provide Pakistan with clean and cheap electricity and promote the green development of Pakistan. .

  On the afternoon of the 25th, Shabazz inspected the site of the Karot Hydropower Project.

After listening to the introduction of the project construction by the Chinese investor, Shabazz thanked the project team for their efforts and was satisfied with the construction progress.

  Shabazz then delivered a speech and said that the Karot Hydropower Project symbolizes the iron-clad friendship between Pakistan and China, and will further deepen the development of bilateral relations after completion.

At present, the workers of the two countries are working together to strive for the early completion of the Karot Hydropower Station project and full production and power generation, so as to play an active role in promoting Pakistan's economic development and benefiting the Pakistani people.

  Wu Shengliang, chairman of China Three Gorges International Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd., delivered a speech via video link, saying that the Karot Hydropower Project is the first large-scale greenfield hydropower project invested by Three Gorges Group overseas.

With the joint efforts of Chinese and Pakistani builders, the project is expected to be fully put into operation and power generation ahead of schedule, helping Pakistan’s economic and social development.

  The Karot Hydropower Station is located in Karot District, Punjab Province, Pakistan, and is the fourth stage of the Jhelum River Cascade Hydropower Plan.

The total investment of the project is about 1.74 billion US dollars, with a total installed capacity of 720,000 kilowatts. After the project is put into operation, the average annual power generation is about 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours.
