More than a dozen people have been killed in a series of attacks in Afghanistan.

One of the attacks was directed at believers in the Hazrat Zakarya Mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

At least 22 wounded were taken to a hospital run by the Italian non-governmental organization (NGO) Emergency.

According to the NGO, five of them were already dead when they arrived.

At least nine people were killed and fifteen others injured in three consecutive explosions in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif, a police spokesman for the German Press Agency said.

The explosive devices were placed in three minibuses.

The victims are all civilians, including women and children.

More than 100 people have been killed in attacks on mosques, religious minorities and schools in recent months.

The terrorist militia Islamic State has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks.

The Sunni extremists consider Shiites to be apostates from the true faith, even though they are also Muslims.

After taking power in August 2021, the militant Islamist Taliban are back in power after 20 years.
