It is Thursday morning, which means full activity at the open preschool Kristallen in Gottsunda.

The singing time attracts many parents and their children.

And after that, a discussion group is held where people talk about menstruation today.

Preschool teacher Nadja Boucheloukh believes that opening the preschool makes a strong contribution to the inclusion of people with a foreign background.

- It breaks the insulation.

It means a lot both to the woman and to the whole family in the long run, she says.

"Saves a lot of time as a woman"

In Uppsala, there are six family centers that, with their combined activities for new parents, can also facilitate integration for those with a foreign background.

But the family center in Gottsunda stands out because it is the only one to offer SFI for parental leave, where parents can take their children to lessons.

- As a woman, you save a lot of time.

Otherwise, we see that women are far behind men in how long it takes to get into working life, says SFI teacher Christine Gustavsson.

Last year, 37 out of 45 enrolled students received grades and could then study further - a high number according to Christine Gustavsson.

"A democratic right"

SFI for parental leave has been in Gottsunda since 2004 and Anna Hanning, who is head of the open preschool in Uppsala municipality, would like to see that language teaching could be offered at the other family centers as well.

- It is something we work for all the time and have tried for several years.

It is a democratic right, that everyone should have the same right in Uppsala where the family centers are located.

There are many who go to Gottsunda now from other parts of the city, she says.

At the open preschool, an educational material called "ihub" has also been produced, which stands for integration.

You can find out more about the content in the video above.

In the video above, Najda, Christine and Anna also tell what they think are the keys to a good start for parents with a foreign background.
