Police officers were carrying out a check when they were attacked by several individuals in Vénissieux (Rhône), Monday shortly before midnight.

As indicated on Wednesday by the departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) of the Rhône, one of the people checked then tried to strangle a police officer.

The officials who immediately sought to arrest the attacker were thrown stones and glass bottles by a group.

If he then took the opportunity to flee, the suspect was arrested shortly after, as was another man "identified as part of the hostile group".

The two suspects were taken into police custody and three police officers have since filed a complaint for the violence suffered on Monday evening in this town in the metropolis of Lyon.

The 18-year-old admitted to the strangulation attempt on the officer and the rebellion, while the other suspect, 20, denied any involvement in the throwing of projectiles.

They will be presented this Wednesday to the Lyon prosecutor's office for a judgment in immediate appearance for willful violence on persons holding public authority and rebellion.
