A bill was introduced to the State Duma on equating to treason going over to the side of the enemy

This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a document entered into the Duma database.

“So, the bill proposes to amend Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia in order to classify actions related to switching to the side of the enemy in conditions of armed conflict or military operations against the Russian Federation as high treason,” the State Duma said.

The bill also provides that the participation of Russians in hostilities on the territory of other countries for purposes contrary to Russian interests is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 12 to 20 years with a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles.

Earlier, the Federation Council of Russia approved a law on the abolition of the upper limit of the age limit for military service in the Russian Armed Forces.
