The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on May 23, announcing the withdrawal of Moscow's candidacy for hosting the 2030 World Expo.

The statement pointed out that the World Expo has become another victim of a large-scale "anti-Russian campaign" launched by Western countries aimed at expelling Russia from all fields of cooperation.

In this case, there is no need to talk about the right to hold the Expo fairly.

"Obviously, in the context of competition with the other four candidate countries, Moscow's bid for Expo 2030 cannot be expected to receive a fair and impartial evaluation, no matter how advantageous it may be."

Russia has made a decision in principle to voluntarily withdraw its candidacy for hosting the 2030 World Expo in Moscow, the statement said.

The corresponding notification has been submitted to BIE on May 23, 2022 in accordance with the established procedure.
