The previous head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Yevgeny Zinichev, died on September 8, 2021 at an interdepartmental exercise in Norilsk, trying to save film director Alexander Melnik who fell into the water.
The Minister was awarded the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
Zinichev was 55 years old, he has held the post of head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations since 2018.
