"The Tour de France option is always open, it's always on my mind," said the world champion, seriously injured in a fall during Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 24, and who got back on his bike road, quoted by his team.

"But it's really important that we don't rush anything and that we continue to be patient," added the 29-year-old Frenchman, who has not decided on his recovery race.

The start of the Tour de France is set for July 1 in Copenhagen.

Before leaving for the south of Spain, in Sierra Nevada, the world champion had a final examination in Herentals (Belgium) where he was treated after his serious fall on April 24 which caused him a hemopneumothorax, a fracture shoulder blade and two broken ribs.

"The good news was that my lung was fully recovered, which of course I was very happy about. The broken bones were still painful, which is completely normal as these injuries take longer to recover from, but I was said that I had the green light to start training", explained Alaphilippe, quoted by his training.

"I spent a few days on the rollers, it was great, but I was really happy to be able to try and spend a few hours on the road. After a few days, I didn't have any bad feelings and it was decided that I join the team for Sierra Nevada training camp," he continued.

"Of course I can't do the same job as all the guys here yet because I need time to train and get back into shape and I still have to be careful not to push my injuries too far," said added Alaphilippe.

"We have perfect conditions for training. Every day I am improving and I hope to continue like this".

In the Tour de France, which he finished fifth in 2019, the double world champion has won six stages since 2018 and wore the yellow jersey for 18 days.
