A man, reported missing at sea on Saturday near Nice, was found on Sunday morning thanks to the significant resources deployed by the Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue of the Mediterranean (Crossmed), indicates the maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean.

On Saturday, a yachtsman, who had left aboard a motorized pointu, a small traditional Mediterranean boat, 6 m long, found himself in difficulty in the Baie des Anges sector, off Nice.

The man was then reported missing and a national navy plane, a speedboat and two helicopters were mobilized to find him. 

Be careful before setting sail

After long hours of searching, especially at night, the yachtsman was located the next morning thanks to the testimony of a relative at Crossmed.

He was winched from the Navy helicopter to the hospital in Cannes, after the intervention of a diver to help him.

In its press release, the maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean recalls the “good practices which can save the lives of users at sea” at the start of the summer season.

She stresses the importance of preparing (being aware of your physical condition, knowing the weather), equipping yourself (life jacket, light device) and alerting (notifying loved ones and your intentions) before leaving for the sea. .
