SVT Nyheter is on site in the courtroom where several people will be heard during the morning, including a relative of one of the patients who died.

In the afternoon, final pleadings await.

- It is an extensive material, 5,000 pages of evidence, interrogation and a timeline of 1,000 pages, says Yvonne Åstrand, SVT's reporter on site at the district court.

She describes the protagonist of the trial drama as calm and collected.

It is now seven years since whistleblowers sounded the alarm about the operations with artificial tracheas.

Seven of the patients died, senior executives were fired and surgeon Macchiarini was charged with aggravated assault.

- He says that his only intention has been to save lives, that it is a decision he has made with others and that it has been jointly concluded that these transplants have been the only reasonable thing, says Yvonne Åstrand.
