The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said - during his participation today in the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland - that his country is working on managing, resolving and mitigating conflicts in the world, considering that recent decades have witnessed the marginalization of the role of the United Nations, and added that the late Al-Jazeera correspondent Sherine Abu Akleh " I was deprived of a funeral that preserves the dignity of the dead.”

Sheikh Tamim stressed that Qatar is in contact with all parties to the Ukrainian crisis, and is ready to make efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, adding that the war in Europe has deepened the energy crisis around the world.

On the other hand, Al-Jazeera correspondent at the Davos Forum, Abdullah Al-Shami, stated that the Emir of Qatar indicated in his speech that the current energy crisis was not recent, but was seen by Qatar, which prompted it to invest in the field of liquefied natural gas.

The reporter added that Sheikh Tamim touched on the efforts that Doha can make in global conflicts, stressing that dialogue is the basis for resolving disputes between countries.

The Emir of Qatar cautioned that the attempt to bring together the parties to conflicts should not be abandoned, and that efforts to bring these parties together should be based on the Charter of the United Nations, and said that recent decades "have witnessed the marginalization of the role of the United Nations and the violation of the rule of law in international relations."

In his speech, the Emir of Qatar touched on the assassination of the late colleague Sherine Abu Aqleh, saying that the Al-Jazeera reporter was "deprived of a funeral that preserves the dignity of the dead," adding that "Sherine's death is no less terrifying than the killing of seven journalists in Ukraine, and the 18 in Palestine since 2000."

On the other hand, Al-Jazeera delegate to the Davos Forum, Mahmoud Murad, said that when the Emir of Qatar mentioned the name of the late Abu Aqila, the audience applauded.

Regarding the organization of the World Cup this year, the Emir of Qatar said that his country is working “every effort to make the FIFA World Cup in Qatar an opportunity to get to know our region, which has suffered from discrimination,” adding, “There are still people who cannot accept the idea of ​​an Arab and Islamic country hosting the World Cup.” for football".

Regarding the Iranian nuclear file, Sheikh Tamim denied that Doha is playing an official mediating role between the West and Tehran, stressing that his country is trying to help and urging all parties to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement.

It is noteworthy that the work of the World Economic Forum started today, Monday, in Davos, in the first direct meeting after two years of virtual meetings due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.

About 50 heads of state and more than 2,500 political and economic figures and businessmen will participate in this forum.
