Jordan: Dangerous Iranian organizations target the kingdom with a "drug war" across the Syrian border

The Director of Military Information in Jordan, Colonel Mustafa Al-Hiyari, said on Monday that the Jordanian armed forces are currently facing a "drug war" on the northeastern borders of Jordan.

Al-Hiyari pointed out that in the past three years, smuggling and infiltration operations have increased and multiplied, mainly drug smuggling, and said: "Smuggling is systematic led by organized organizations backed by external parties."

Al-Hiyari continued in an interview with the "Voice of the Kingdom" program: "What we see in the armed forces, and we deal with daily on our northern borders, are smuggling operations that take place from 3-4 groups, and each group consists of 10-20 people, and these groups divide a category that works on reconnaissance - Surveillance - another group is working to disperse the monitoring efforts of the armed forces, and another group is waiting for the right opportunity to carry out smuggling operations.

He added, "These groups sometimes receive support from undisciplined groups from the Syrian border guards, and from other groups, and therefore they are systematic operations."

Al-Hiyari considered that war in its traditional concept (a military force facing a military force) is no longer the main threat facing countries, especially with the information age and massive development, noting that many countries have become able to "influence their enemies through multiple tools, including disinformation and media distortion." information operations and cyber-attacks, including drugs.

Al-Hiyari touched on an interview that the Jordanian king had with the Hoover Institution, in which he indicated that "the vacuum that Russia is currently leaving, especially in southern Syria, is being filled by Iran through its tools, namely the Iranian militias."

"We are witnessing undisciplined groups and armed criminal groups pursuing the smuggling process professionally, and recently they started using weapons to carry out smuggling operations using force."

According to Al-Hiyari, "the nature of smuggling requires the presence of elements that facilitate smuggling operations," and they are smugglers on both sides of the borders, which is present on the borders of all countries of the world.

We used to say that Jordan is a corridor country, not a stable country, but unfortunately this equation has recently changed.

Because the goals of smuggling have become systematic and have changed... Now smuggling targets the Jordanian society, the Jordanian family, the ties, and the values of the members of Jordanian society."

Al-Hiyari considered that the crises witnessed by neighboring countries such as Iraq and Syria had repercussions, such as the spread of terrorist organizations on the borders, where he explained that "there is another part of the terrorist organizations, which is the Iranian organizations, and these organizations are more dangerous, because they conspire with foreign agendas, and target Jordanian national security." .

And he indicated that his country is making a "multi-dimensional effort, including the rehabilitation of manpower and the employment of material capabilities and modern equipment, as well as a great intelligence effort, but we have to understand the nature of the dilemmas on the northern borders."

Al-Hiyari pointed out that many reports indicated the arrival of drugs that are manufactured in Syria to European countries, specifically Italy, indicating that the volume of seizures in his country has doubled since the beginning of the year to the present.
