A French security guard at the Qatari embassy in Paris was killed on Monday, and the embassy said authorities had arrested the suspect and launched investigations.

The Qatari embassy described what happened as a "heinous and unjustified crime" and offered condolences to the guard's family, and said it was awaiting the results of the investigations.

The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a person had been arrested immediately, and said, "An investigation was opened today into the charge of premeditated murder," noting that "the circumstances of the guard's death are not yet known precisely."

Reuters quoted a French judicial source as saying that the killing of the security guard did not appear to be an act of terrorism.
