During the IT attack on the municipality, the business was forced to go back to paper and pen - no files could be accessed.

The municipality also started a telephone line for those with home care and relatives.

It has now been almost six months since the attack and great resources have been invested in building a completely new and more secure system for coping with future attacks.

And they are still exposed.

- Despite the fact that many of us had attended security training before the attack, I do not think we had come as far as we did and made such large investments, says Maria Henriksson.

Supports other municipalities

Kalix municipality has been out and talked to several other actors and municipalities about the lessons of the attack.

The inquiries have even come to such an extent that they recorded material as they do not have time to go out to everyone.

- I think that when it happened to us, not many people were ready.

Now I am absolutely sure that most municipalities have started their work.

Most important tip - life can be in danger

The two most important tips the municipal director gives to others are to take the checklist available at the Swedish Agency for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (MSB) seriously - and to dare to invest.

The choice not to spend money on it can be significantly more expensive.

- During this time when it was the hardest, I had contact with the National Operations Department.

I asked how much we need to invest and got the answer that it is never completely possible to prevent, but you have to set a much higher normal level than we had, says Maria Henriksson.
