She is one of the Turkish journalists who accuse Swedish government politicians of associating with terrorists in the wake of President Erdogan's threat to stop Sweden and Finland's NATO applications.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde and Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist have been pointed out as particularly problematic for their contacts with representatives of the Syrian Kurdish YPG, who are branded terrorist by Turkey but not by Sweden.

- The Swedish ministers must stop contacts with the YPG and stop praising them as heroes, says Hilal Kaplan.

The YPG was a US ally in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and is usually praised by the West for its efforts against the jihadists.

Arouses emotions even in Erdogan's opponents

But the Turkish government believes that the YPG, which is described as a spin-off of Turkey's arch-enemy PKK, must be seen as a threat to Turkey's national security.

- You do not fight one terrorist organization by supporting another.

You have to choose between legitimate countries and illegitimate non-state actors, says Hilal Kaplan.

The Swedish government's contacts with the YPG provoke strong nationalist reactions in Turkey, even among many opponents of President Erdogan.

But not everyone in Turkey feels the same way.

Among supporters of the pro-Kurdish HDP, Turkey's third largest party, there are instead concerns that Sweden may succumb to demands from the Turkish government to join NATO.

- It is about infringing on the rights of the Kurdish people.

If Sweden compromises on fundamental rights, it would probably go against its own values, says HDP parliamentarian Saruhan Oluc.
