The Blues had already validated their maintenance thanks to Slovakia's victory on Friday against Kazakhstan (4-3) and therefore achieved their main objective in Finland: not to finish in last place in group A, synonymous with relegation.

Finishing in the top four and joining the quarters of the competition would have served as a bonus and an achievement, but it is no longer achievable.

Denmark, 4th and last provisional qualifier has nine points before their meeting against Canada on Monday.

The Blues have only five and a victory only brings three points.

However, the France team once believed in a great performance against Switzerland, 6th nation in the world and current first in its group.

Alexandre Texier (5th) then Valentin Claireaux (13th) allowed the Blues to lead 2 to 0. A first in this World Cup, where the French team had never opened the scoring.

But the Swiss, thanks to Nico Hischier, Damien Riat and Andres Ambhul set the record straight and enforced the hierarchy from the second third.

Dean Kukan (51st) and Hischier (59th) then increased the score for the Swiss selection, undefeated and guaranteed to see the quarter-finals.

Philippe Bozon's men still have a prestigious meeting to play on Tuesday, against Canada, the reigning world champion, but swept away (6-3) by Switzerland on Saturday.
