Since September, eleven women have been arrested and notified of suspected war crimes.

This since they landed in Sweden after being expelled by Kurds from internment camps in northeastern Syria.

Eight of the investigations have been closed.

District Attorney Hanna Lemoine, who led three of the preliminary investigations, tells Ekot that it is difficult to investigate this type of crime as you do not have access to the crime scene, witnesses and plaintiffs.

The three investigations that are still ongoing concern women who have arrived in Sweden relatively recently.

About a hundred women are estimated to have traveled from Sweden to Syria since 2012 to join violent Islamist groups and take part in wars.
