Yemen.. Upcoming consultations on opening roads and crossings

The Yemeni parties announced the nomination of the members participating in the upcoming consultations in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on the opening of ports and roads in Taiz and other governorates, which are sponsored by the United Nations through its special envoy to Yemen.

The government side announced last week the nomination of the members of the delegation participating in the consultations at the crossings, which are expected to start in Jordan, during the next two days.

For its part, the militia announced the designation of its delegation in the consultations, namely, Yahya Al-Razami, Hussein Deif, Muhammad Muhammad Al-Mahtori, and Shukri Mahyoub Abdo Noman.

This comes with the Houthi militia starting a evasive operation regarding opening the crossings south of Hodeidah and east of Taiz, as it announced its willingness to open the Mubarraz port in the Jabal Ras Directorate, south of Hodeidah, to escape the implementation of its commitment to open the road linking the Hays and Al-Jarrahi districts south of Hodeidah and Taiz governorate, which was opened by The joint Yemeni forces last month, and the militias refuse to open it from the areas under their control.

The militias had announced their readiness to open secondary crossings in Taiz, including the Ghorab Crossing, and the Central Crossing - Asaifra, and refused to open the road and the vital artery of the city coming from Al-Hawban, east of Taiz.

And the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said last week that he was waiting for the Houthi militia to name members of its delegation participating in the consultations to open roads and crossings in all governorates that are witnessing road closures, especially Taiz.

The militias tried to exploit the international and international efforts aimed at opening roads and crossings in Yemen, by imposing new conditions on the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, represented by its request to put pressure on Egypt to accept flights from Sanaa to Cairo, according to its terms, despite Egypt’s refusal to receive Yemeni travelers with issued passports. about the Houthis.

According to well-informed sources in Sanaa, the militias want to bargain between participating in the consultations to open the Taiz roads, and increasing the number of flights from Sanaa airport in accordance with their conditions, and demanded the envoy to exert pressures such as that which was done with Jordan to accept flights from Sanaa for travelers holding Houthi-issued passports.

For his part, Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman stressed the need to pressure the Houthis to open Taiz roads and to seriously engage in Yemeni peace efforts.

He said during a meeting in Washington with US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking, today, Saturday: "There is an important role that the United Nations and the international community must play to pressure the Houthi militias to open Taiz roads, and to engage seriously in peace efforts, so that Yemen can move to security and stability."

While the Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abu Zaraa Al-Muharrami, called for unifying the media discourse, in line with the current stage that is witnessing the promotion of hopes for reaching a lasting peace through efforts to extend the truce and open the crossings, the Yemeni government renewed its call on the international community to pressure militias to open Taiz roads.

The official “Saba” agency quoted a Yemeni government meeting yesterday in Aden, stressing that the priority is to press for the completion of the implementation of the truce provisions, the lifting of the siege on the city of Taiz and the opening of vital roads between the main cities, which multiply the human suffering of citizens.

The government affirmed its readiness to deal positively with all initiatives that would end the war and restore peace and stability.

Yesterday, the Yemeni government began local and international moves to mitigate the effects of the international crisis regarding wheat supplies, as the Yemeni prime minister called on the international community to provide preferential benefits to Yemeni wheat importers to access global wheat markets.

He also called for supporting the government's plans to establish a special emergency fund to finance imports, which would help reduce the current global consequences on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which portends a real catastrophe if it is not averted, according to the official "Saba" agency.

On the ground, the militia leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, called on the leaders and supervisors of his group to mobilize more fighters and push them to the fronts, indicating in a televised speech yesterday, that they are interested in continuing the war.

Al-Houthi's call comes at a time when his elements escalated their violations of the armistice on all fronts, as they launched artillery and guided missile attacks on Yemeni army positions west of Marib and south of Hodeidah.

And field sources reported that the militias attacked army positions in the Ramli and Al-Jabali axes, south and west of Marib, and they were repelled, and the Houthis inflicted heavy losses, including the leader of the last attack on Marib.

In Hodeidah, the military media of the joint forces stated that the militias launched new attacks on civilian and military areas in the vicinity of the districts of Al-Jarrahi and Hays, south of the governorate, in conjunction with the planting of new quantities of mines in the roads of the two districts.

The center pointed out that the militias recently planted random mines on the "Al-Jarrahi-Hais" road, which included the villages of "Al-Bazzaz, Qariba, Sherheed, Al-Masjid, Shuaib and Al-Zein", and these roads are expected to be opened in implementation of the terms of the armistice.

During the past hours, Houthi mines caused the injury of four children, including two girls, while they were passing on roads that were under the control of the Houthis in the governorates of Al-Jawf, Abyan and Taiz.

In Raymah, armed clashes continued between two tribesmen from the Salafiya Directorate, and Houthi elements who were brought in from the Bani Asaad area in the Dhamar governorate, against the background of the killing of a resident of the Doumer area of the Salafiya Directorate inside his shop at the hands of Houthi elements, who refused to hand the perpetrators over to the official authorities. Pushing the tribes to fall apart and confronting the Houthis with weapons.
