Gabriel Van Der Eerden, 28 years old from Uddevalla, is in a wheelchair after a ski accident 12 years ago.

Before the accident, he ran Lilla Göteborgsvarvet, but after he ended up in a wheelchair, he has never been allowed to participate in the lap until now.

- It feels fun that it will finally get rid of, says Gabriel Van Der Eerden.

A pilot project

This is the first year that the yard allows wheelchair users to drive.

In the past, it has been banned for security reasons, but after criticism, the organizers have swung.

- We are doing a pilot project this year with the ambition that it will result in a class for wheelchair users, says Daniel Vandor from Göteborgsvarvet.

- It is good that it has been covered in the media so that it has been possible to change, says Gabriel Van Der Eerden.

When it was 2.31 pm, the start was for the first wheelchair-bound participants ever.

- The symbolic power of this is that we are like everyone else.

Today I hope to come for two hours and to a folk festival in Gothenburg, says Gabriel Van Der Eerden.
