“From August 1, it will be allowed to increase the number of flights (up to two or three per week, depending on the epidemic situation) and open the island for tourism,” TASS quoted the Chilean government as saying.

The conditions of entry for travelers will be announced later.

Until August 1, only local residents will be able to get to the island - one flight a week will continue to fly.

In March 2020, the first case of COVID-19 infection was detected on the Chilean Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean.

In the same month, authorities closed entry to the island due to the pandemic.

According to TASS, at the moment, 39 cases of infection and no deaths have been confirmed on the island.
