On May 18, local time, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the closure of the Canadian CBC Television Company's correspondent station in Russia and the cancellation of the press card of the media's journalists in Russia as a responsive measure to Canada.

Since the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Canada has announced sanctions against thousands of Russians, Belarusians and eastern Ukraine personnel, and Russia has also sanctioned some Canadians in retaliation.

The fight over the media between Russia and Western countries, including Canada, is tit-for-tat.

Some Western countries have successively banned Russian media from operating within their borders and blocked accounts related to Russian media.

In March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law punishing those who deliberately spread fake news about the Russian military with up to 15 years in prison, prompting some Western media to withdraw some journalists.
