A man injured three people with a knife in Nore, Norway.
One person is in serious condition.
The suspect was arrested by local police and several witnesses witnessed the tragedy.
For the moment, his motivations are not known but the individual would probably have targeted people at random.
At least three people were injured, one seriously, in an "indiscriminate" attack on Friday in southeastern Norway, Norwegian police said.
A suspect has been arrested, local police said on Twitter, without specifying at this stage the reasons for this attack which would have targeted random people.
The police are not looking for another suspect, said one of its officials, Håvard Revå, to the newspaper Verdens Gang (VG).
"At this stage: three people injured and one person seriously injured," she wrote in an ambiguous tweet that may suggest that the toll could be heavier.
A few minutes later, the police clarified, also on Twitter, that they had "control over the alleged perpetrator" of the attack, without providing further details.
According to witnesses quoted by the Norwegian media, numerous police patrols and ambulances, as well as three medical helicopters, were dispatched to the scene.
The assault happened in a valley called Numedal, with Norwegian media reporting that it took place near a bus stop, near a convenience store and a high school, in the village of Nore and Uvdal which has less than 3,000 inhabitants.
"I don't know of any prior threats," local mayor Jan Gaute Bjerke told TV2.
"This kind of episode usually happens like a clap of thunder in a blue sky."
"There was a lot of blood"
A high school located near the convenience store as well as the surrounding schools were quickly secured, according to him.
According to the NRK channel, several students witnessed the incident.
Several people allegedly tried to subdue one person who was stabbing another, the channel said.
“There was a lot of blood,” testified a resident.
Other witnesses spoke of a woman lying injured, near "a large puddle of blood".
The area where the attack occurred is north of Kongsberg, a town where a bow and knife attack left five people dead last October.
Its author, a Dane suffering according to experts from psychiatric disorders, has been on trial since Thursday in Norway.
In its annual assessment of threats to Norwegian society, the domestic intelligence services (PST) warned against "simple attacks" that could visit gatherings of people, institutions or individuals with rudimentary weapons such as knives.
