With energy security becoming a major issue in the wake of the situation in Ukraine, Prime Minister Kishida held a Japan-US summit meeting with US President Joe Biden on the 23rd in both Japan and the United States to secure stable energy. I would like to confirm the policy to strengthen cooperation.

In response to the situation in Ukraine, the G7 = seven major countries are working to reduce their dependence on Russia, and Japan also attaches great importance to the unity of the G7 and has announced an embargo on Russian oil in principle.

Under these circumstances, at the Japan-US summit meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and President Biden of the United States on the 23rd, opinions are expected to be exchanged on the ideal form of cooperation in the energy field.

Specifically, it is expected that discussions will be held to increase production and ensure stable procurement, as LNG = liquefied natural gas produced in the United States will play an important role in alleviating tight supply and demand.

On the Japanese side, the Biden administration, which has a strong interest in climate change countermeasures, is concerned about increasing LNG production, so it is called CCUS, which reuses carbon dioxide as fuel or confine it in the ground and store it. We would like to provide technical cooperation on decarbonization such as technology.
