The sun is warming nicely this morning on Eliantorpsbanan outside Finspång and Tommy Karlsson, biologist at the county administrative board, will soon find a wild bee in the dunes.

- In areas where the motocross bikes do not ride, we have planted various plants to benefit wild bees and other insects.

Many people like this sandy environment and among the red-listed species are golden sand bee and silver cuckoo bee, says Tommy Karlsson.

Miljöpris started cooperation

The collaboration between Finspångs MS and the county administrative board began in 2015 after the Swedish Motorsport Association, Svemo, had visited.

- We received the environmental award then for our work and the county administrative board began to take an interest in our area.

Then it has rolled on and it is positive for the club that we can do something for the biological diversity, says Morgon Jonsson, environmental manager at Eliantorpsbanan.

Thrives on the motorway

On this day, it is still calm on the motocross track, but when we walk around between jumps and curves, it is difficult to understand that the wild bees are not disturbed by the activity.

- No, they do not.

These insects benefit more from stirring the soil and keeping the areas open.

Then they can dig, build and live in the sandy soil, says Tommy Karlsson.

In the clip above, Tommy Karlsson, biologist at the county administrative board, and Morgan Jonsson from Finspångs MS tell more about how they work together to benefit wild bees.
