When Northvolt builds the battery factory in Skellefteå with 5,000 new jobs in Skellefteå, Bastuträsk hopes that this will spill over to Bastuträsk.
The station community with 370 inhabitants 50 km from Skellefteå has for the past 30 years reduced its population every year.
But last year something big happened.
11 new inhabitants and Bastuträsk began to hope for new times.
The municipality decided to sell plots cheaply and now they also want day commuting by train to Skellefteå.
A journey that would take 45 minutes.
- If the expansion is as large as planned in Skellefteå, 50 km is no distance, especially if there are commuter trains.
There are already stakeholders to buy the plots.
We are also processing a couple of building permits in Bastuträsk, says Mikael Lindfors (S) municipal councilor in Norsjö.
