Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 18. On May 18, 2022, Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, had a telephone conversation with Sullivan, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs of the United States.

Yang Jiechi said that President Xi Jinping and President Biden have reached important consensus on China-US relations, and both sides should earnestly implement it.

Recently, the two sides have conducted some dialogues in the military, climate change, health, agriculture and other fields, which is beneficial and the momentum of dialogue should be maintained.

At the same time, it must be pointed out that for a period of time, the US has taken a series of wrong words and deeds that interfered in China's internal affairs and harmed China's interests.

The US side should live up to its words and deeds, implement relevant commitments into specific policies and actions, meet China halfway, properly manage differences, do more constructive things, and push China-US relations back to the right track of healthy and stable development.

Yang Jiechi stressed that the Taiwan issue is the most important, sensitive and core issue in China-US relations.

The US has made it clear on many occasions that it adheres to the one-China policy and does not support "Taiwan independence".

However, the actual actions of the United States on the Taiwan issue recently differed greatly from its statements.

If the US insists on playing the "Taiwan card" and goes further and further down the wrong path, it will surely lead the situation to a dangerous situation.

We urge the US to recognize the situation clearly, strictly abide by its commitments, and abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques.

China will take firm actions to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests, and we will do what we say.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that seeking peace, seeking cooperation and promoting development is the general trend of the Asia-Pacific region and the aspiration of the people.

China upholds the concept of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and has always been friendly with neighboring countries for mutual benefit and win-win results, and a shared destiny.

Any behavior that undermines the fundamental and long-term interests of countries in the Asia-Pacific region out of selfish interests is doomed to not go far or work.

Any attempt to form factions and engage in split confrontation will never succeed.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as Ukraine and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
