If you're used to sleeping at night wearing socks, you may want to reconsider the habit.

In this report published by the Turkish newspaper "yeniakit", dermatologist Dr. Kerem Baykal explains the harms of this habit.

It is known that there is no standard for how to sleep at night, as some prefer to sleep with socks on, while others sleep without them.

But what many don't know is that sleeping with socks on can lead to some health consequences.

Sleeping with socks negatively affects the peripheral blood circulation as a result of prolonged pressure of the elastic bands of the socks on the feet, which impairs blood circulation in that area, leading to bruising and dry skin.

fungal infection

Another problem that sleeping with socks can cause is a fungal infection in the feet as a result of sweaty feet and air retention.

The presence of detergent residue in the socks can cause eczema, in addition to contact dermatitis due to prolonged friction between the skin and the fabric of the socks, which causes problems such as itching, redness of the skin, flaking of the feet and dryness.

Therefore, it is very important to take off the socks before going to bed in order to maintain the health of the skin and feet.

The newspaper stated that sleeping with socks may make you feel more comfortable, especially in winter, as it may even increase blood circulation temporarily, but if you do not take off your socks throughout the night, this will have the opposite effect, slowing blood flow.

feet sweating

Socks with cute designs can lift your spirits even on a gloomy day, but pay attention to the fabric they are made of.

Synthetic materials such as polyester, rayon, and nylon are not skin-friendly and do not allow your feet to breathe.

And if you sleep through the night in these socks, your feet may get sweaty.

And if you sleep with a thick blanket, this will create a fertile environment for bacteria to multiply.

If you use detergents with strong chemicals when washing your socks, these chemicals can irritate your skin.

Your feet may also swell, and wearing socks for long hours can leave itchy scars, especially in the ankle area.

According to experts, we sleep more comfortably in cooler environments.

Therefore, the body temperature begins to decrease during sleep.

And when you sleep in socks, this balance can be disrupted and your sleep quality is affected.
