The United States announces the discovery of the first case of "monkeypox", and Spain and Portugal have recorded 40 cases

Yesterday, the Massachusetts Department of Health announced the discovery of the first case of "monkeypox" in 2022 in the United States.

"Today (May 18) the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed one case of monkeypox infection in an adult male who recently visited Canada," the department said in a statement.

The patient was taken to hospital, and his condition was assessed as satisfactory.

Earlier, nine cases of monkeypox were recorded in the United Kingdom, and Spain and Portugal announced yesterday that they had recorded more than 40 confirmed or suspected cases of monkeypox.

The Russian Consumer Protection Agency said the risk of monkeypox being imported into Russia is very low, and all necessary measures are being taken to prevent the disease from being imported.

Monkeypox is a rare disease that occurs mainly in remote areas of central and western Africa near tropical rainforests.

The monkeypox virus is transmitted to humans from a variety of wild animals, but its spread at the secondary level is limited through human-to-human transmission.

There is no treatment or vaccine available to combat the disease.
