Last year, US authorities presented a report with 144 unidentified air phenomena that should have been visible since 2004. Only one of the objects could be explained.

It turned out to be a punctured hot air balloon.

- It has been interpreted by many as lacking an explanation for the other 143 objects.

In this hearing, it was explained that they only lacked enough data to ensure the other phenomena, usually you only have a clue, says space writer Miranda Järelind.

Scientific explanations

The US Congress on Tuesday had a political debate on UFOs.

The focus was on security policy and not extraterrestrial phenomena.

It was emphasized that most of the observations made may be about astronomical phenomena, satellites, weather balloons or own aircraft and drones.

- It was interesting to see the military speak openly about what interests large sections of the American population and the world.

Many of the air phenomena have scientific or astronomical explanations.

It was important for the Pentagon to be open with those explanations.

Appoints open investigation

A new special group in the US military has been appointed to investigate all the unidentified air phenomena, unlike the Pentagon's previously closed investigation.

- The idea is that the work should be as transparent and open as possible so that the American population also gets answers to their questions, says Miranda Järelind.
