An analysis by the U.S. Department of Defense has shown that the number of units mobilized in recent battles by Russian troops in Ukraine has significantly decreased.

According to the Washington Post (WP) report, a U.S. Department of Defense official said on the 18th that the Russian army adjusted the troops it puts into battle as 12 weeks passed, indicating that the Russian side had less 'ambition' than at the beginning of the war.

This is in line with the observation that the war between Russia and Ukraine has reached a stalemate.

After the start of the war on February 24, Ukrainian forces succeeded in defending the capital Kiiu, and recently drove out the Russian army from the second city of Northeast Kharkiv.

On the other hand, major stronghold cities in the south such as Kherson were lost to the Russian army, and Mariupol, a strategic point in the south, was eventually abandoned as well.

The US Department of Defense analyzes that the Russian military reduced the scale of the battle in a situation where both sides could not get a decisive victory and the battle was back and forth.

The U.S. Department of Defense explained that the Russian military, which is leading the offensive operation on the Donbas Front in eastern Ukraine, is not a battalion-level unit composed of hundreds of men, but a company of between dozens and 100 men.

It said that the point where the Russians attack is also not in the main cities of eastern Donbas or in the areas occupied by Ukrainians, but in places like villages and intersections.

The reduction in the size of the Russian military's tactical operations seems to have nothing to do with the fact that there is a shortage of troops due to power loss, etc.

According to the British Defense Ministry's announcement on the 15th, the Russian army has lost a third of its troops for nearly three months after the start of the war, and the loss of power is so severe that it is difficult for some units to perform their missions.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's own tally, as of the 18th, more than 28,000 Russian soldiers were killed.

As it is known that between 100,000 and 130,000 Russian troops were mobilized for the invasion of Ukraine at the beginning of the war, if this count is true, Russia has lost at least 20% of its troops.
