“The investigation established that on May 9, 2022, a citizen of Ukraine, Irina Zemlyana, and other unidentified persons ... attacked the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Poland, S.V.
Andreev, splashing a red liquid on his face and clothes, tearing off his glasses and the St. George ribbon, ”the department’s Telegram channel says.
In addition, offenders tore off registration plates from the embassy's official transport and caused other damage.
The investigation qualified the incident as an attack on internationally protected persons and their official vehicles, committed in order to complicate international relations (part 2 of article 360 of the Russian Criminal Code).
On May 9, the Russian ambassador to Poland, Sergei Andreev, was attacked, he was doused with red paint while trying to lay a wreath at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw.
The diplomat himself later stated that the attack on diplomats at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw on May 9 was not spontaneous and was being prepared for a long time.
Sylvester Marchak, a Warsaw police spokesman, told RMF radio that his office had handed over to the prosecutor's office the materials collected during the investigation into the attack.
