The Orleans court (Loiret) sentenced a 35-year-old man to five years in prison on Tuesday.

The defendant was imprisoned at the end of the hearing.

He was found guilty of causing the death of two people aged 17 and 28 by hitting them with his car in Chilleurs-aux-Bois (Loiret) in November 2019. The driver was drunk at the time, reports France Bleu Orleans.

The most lenient prosecutor

The two victims were riding a scooter with a third person, aged 22.

She was seriously injured in the accident.

The sentence decided by the courts is more severe than that required by the prosecutor, who had requested five years' imprisonment, two of which were suspended.

The collision with the speeding motorist had thrown the victims between 100 and 150 m further.

The driver with a criminal record had escaped firefighters and fled the scene.

He was later found in a forest.

The suspect had his driver's license revoked.
