Military analyst Amos Harel told Haaretz that the Israeli army does not intend to open an investigation into the circumstances of the killing of colleague Shireen Abu Akleh, claiming that there are no criminal suspicions, and in order not to erupt disputes in the military establishment and Israeli society.

The newspaper's report indicated that the Israeli MP had issued instructions at the end of the second Palestinian intifada regarding the necessity of opening an investigation into the circumstances of the killing of Palestinian civilians by Israeli fire, if they were not armed.

However, the current deputy is abstaining from that - it seems - to avoid any criticism from the right or to provoke disagreements within the army, according to the newspaper, "Haaretz".

For its part, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the decision of the occupation army not to investigate the case of Shireen Abu Akleh, and that, according to it, was due to its failure to conceal his crime.

In a parallel context, Dutch Foreign Minister Wubke Hoekstra said after his meeting with his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid in Jerusalem that the killing of Shirin Abu Akleh while she was practicing her profession was very worrying, and called for a full, comprehensive and transparent investigation.

The Dutch Foreign Minister, during his meeting with his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad Al-Maliki, in Ramallah, also asked the Israelis and Palestinians to work together to scrutinize all the circumstances related to the assassination of the Al-Jazeera journalist, adding that the only audited investigation would be successful.

Hoekstra said, "The tragic death of Al-Jazeera journalist Sherine Abu Akleh last week showed that the press itself may fall victim to violence, and this is heart-wrenching and unacceptable, and naturally leads to the generation of strong emotions, reactions and reactions."

"In this context, I would like to ask the two parties to seriously study the conditions that allow for a kind of cooperation based on a common goal, which is to reveal the truth and scrutinize all angles," he said.

Discount and judgment

For his part, the Palestinian Foreign Minister stressed that it is difficult to accept Israel's participation in the investigation after its assassination, Shirin Abu Aqleh.

Al-Maliki said, "It is difficult, if not impossible, to accept Israel as a party to the investigation process, because we already accuse it of being the one who killed Shireen Abu Aqila, and it is impossible for Israel to be the adversary and the judge in a crime that it committed."

The European Commissioner in charge of Neighborhood and Enlargement Policy, Oliver Varheli, called for an independent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the killing of our colleague Shireen Abu Akleh.

Farheli said that it was unacceptable to target journalists while they were performing their work, and called for "the safety and protection of journalists covering conflict situations at all times."

He also continued by saying that "the European Union is affected by the events that occurred during the funeral procession, and it condemns this disproportionate use of force and this inappropriate behaviour."

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz has arrived in the United States, where he will meet a number of officials, including Defense Minister Lloyd Austin.

The circumstances of the assassination of colleague Shireen Abu Akleh and the Israeli police forces' suppression of her funeral in occupied Jerusalem are at the forefront of the discussions that Gantz is conducting in Washington.

The Israeli radio had confirmed that US officials were asking the Israeli government for clarifications regarding the Al-Jazeera journalist's case.
