The Nice court has just sentenced an 81-year-old man to 30 months in prison, 18 of which are due now, and a 62-year-old woman to four years in prison, two of which are suspended.

This couple was found guilty of abuse of weakness, theft by trickery, burglary or escalation.

the sexagenarian has tried to escape justice since her indictment in February 2021, in particular for abuse of weakness and hotel scams, and was arrested a few days ago.

During her arrest, the police discovered false identity papers in her bag which she used to pretend that she worked for the town hall and offered to help the victims.

More than 70,000 euros in damage

The pensioners thus stole 30,000 euros from a mentally handicapped person by abusing his weakness.

Still according to the local daily, the first facts date back to 2016, in a Nice retirement home where the couple would have taken advantage of a visit from a priest to steal his checkbook.

On their bank account then appeared 31,000 euros for one and 3,000 for the other.

Another priest was also the victim of the theft of his bank card.

In total, the damage is estimated at more than 70,000 euros.

In his defense, the 81-year-old man explains that he found himself on the street when his parents died without being able to find housing since, with debts that have accumulated.

His partner meanwhile “pledged not to do it again”.
